Why isn't there a real hardcore mode yet?

I’ve played hardcore modes in tons of games before and the whole point is supposed to be zero HUD elements. I saw in some PC footage that there might be a no HUD server option but usually that just means they remove the minimap and crosshair.

The current hardcore mode in 2042 is pretty bad. Your screen still has tons of stuff on it like a gray minimap, gadget indicators, ammo counters, player markers, and more.

What I really want from hardcore is total immersion. I want to feel like I’m actually in combat. That means no bright colored icons everywhere, no minimap, no ammo counter showing how many rounds are left, no gadget displays, no objective markers telling me where to go, and no kill notifications.

I want complete immersion where it’s just me with my weapon looking for enemies. My most memorable gaming moments happened in proper hardcore modes. You’re actually crawling through vegetation, staying hidden, checking every angle carefully. No rushing around spraying bullets because the damage is lethal and nobody wants to charge into danger.

To spot enemies you have to stay quiet and watch for movement in trees or shadows far away. These matches are always the most thrilling because you actually feel like your life is on the line.

I really hope BF6 includes a real hardcore experience. You should have to recognize your team’s uniforms to avoid shooting friendlies, maybe just tiny icons on teammates at most.

What I mainly want is a mode with absolutely no HUD. Maybe only capture point locations would show up. Real hardcore is about immersion so deep that you’re sweating and scared to round corners. Those games are incredibly fun and intense.

Another awesome thing about proper hardcore is that since you die so fast, people don’t just rush everywhere. Players use actual tactics. It’s slower paced but way more satisfying. If they add this type of HC mode, I know it’s all I’ll ever play.

Also don’t tell me to just turn off my HUD. This only works when it’s enforced server wide for everyone.

Red Orchestra 2 nailed this. No crosshair, you’re counting every shot, and genuinely scared of what’s around each corner.

Squad nails this. You’re constantly asking teammates where stuff is and actually talking to each other. Every firefight gets way more intense when you can’t just look at the UI for answers.

Totally agree, the immersion in games like Insurgency is unmatched. The tension of keeping track of ammo and figuring out if that figure in the distance is friend or foe is what draws players in. Developers may fear that hardcore modes will limit their audience, but those intense experiences create lasting memories. They definitely stand out compared to the typical arcade-style shooters.
