Why aren't 'job simulator' games more educational and skill-focused?

I’ve been playing a lot of those ‘mundane job simulator’ games lately. You know, the ones where you mow lawns, fix cars, or run a restaurant. They’re fun, but I can’t help thinking they’re missing a huge opportunity.

These games could easily teach real skills without losing their entertainment value. Imagine if the pressure washing game actually showed you how to set up the equipment safely. Or if the card shop simulator had a more realistic pricing system.

Some games, like the electrician and PC repair ones, come close to being educational. But most just scratch the surface. Why not add more detailed tutorials or even a reference guide for players who want to learn more?

I’m curious what others think. Have you played any job simulators that you felt were actually teaching you something useful? Or do you have ideas on how these games could be improved to be more educational? Let me know your thoughts!

I’ve played a bunch of those job sims. They’re usually more about the chill vibes than actual learning. But yeah, it’d be cool if they snuck in some real tips. Maybe not full-on tutorials, but just little nuggets of useful info here and there. Could make the games even more satisfying.

I’ve played a few job simulator games. They are fun, but I agree more educational elements could enhance them without sacrificing entertainment value.

Yeah, I’ve thought about this too. Some of those sim games could definitely teach more. PC Building Simulator actually helped me learn about computer parts. It’d be cool if more games found that balance between fun and learning real stuff.

True. Some games like PowerWash Simulator could easily include real techniques. But maybe devs worry too much detail would make it less fun?

I get where you’re coming from. These games are meant to be fun first, but sneaking in some real-world knowledge could make them even cooler.

Maybe they could add optional ‘pro tips’ for players who want to dig deeper. Like in a cooking sim, you could learn actual knife skills or food safety stuff.

It’s a fine line though. Too much realism might kill the fun for some players. But done right, it could add a whole new layer to these games.
