Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about VR games lately. I’m curious about what parts of VR gameplay don’t feel quite right to you. You know, those moments where you’re like ‘This is cool, but it doesn’t feel real.’
I’m especially interested in how the controllers affect the experience. Are there certain actions or movements that just don’t translate well? Maybe picking up objects feels off, or maybe combat doesn’t have the right ‘weight’ to it.
What do you think could be added or changed with VR controllers to make games feel more immersive? I’m not talking about fancy haptic suits or anything - just tweaks to the controllers we already use.
Share your thoughts! What breaks the illusion for you when you’re in VR, and how do you think it could be fixed?
VR can be amazing, but yeah there are definitely some immersion-breaking quirks. For me, the lack of proper hand tracking is a big one. Using controllers to grab stuff just doesn’t feel natural. I’m always aware I’m holding plastic instead of actually interacting with objects.
Also, melee combat tends to feel off. Swinging a sword should have resistance, but in VR it’s just air. Makes it hard to get into intense sword fights or whatever.
VR walking still feels weird to me. Teleporting breaks immersion, but smooth locomotion can make me queasy. And picking up stuff often feels floaty. I wish there was a way to make objects have more heft when you grab them. Maybe future controllers could simulate weight somehow?
