I’ve been thinking about this hypothetical scenario and can’t find clear information anywhere. If something catastrophic happened to the main UK government, what would be the legal status of all the British territories around the world?
Would places like Gibraltar, Bermuda, and the Falklands automatically become independent nations? Or would they try to form some kind of confederation with each other? Maybe they would ask nearby countries to take them under their wing for protection?
Also curious about the special territories closer to home. Would places like Jersey and Guernsey end up in some kind of restricted zone, or would they have different rules applied to them? The whole constitutional setup seems really complex and I’m wondering if there are any official contingency plans for this kind of situation.
Sounds like you’ve been playing alternate history strategy games lately. This scenario pops up in Hearts of Iron all the time. The territories usually get absorbed by whoever’s strongest nearby, or they go independent if they can swing it.
This is like those Kaiserreich mod scenarios where everything falls apart. Most places would probably get absorbed by whoever has ships in the area, but some might team up like those small nation defensive pacts in Victoria 3.
This sounds like a Europa Universalis disaster event waiting to happen. Most territories would probably just flip to whoever controls the nearest trade node.
It’s a wild thought, right? Like those moments in Civilization where everything collapses. The territories might get scooped up by nearby powers or try to go solo. I can see Gibraltar being taken by Spain, and Bermuda might lean towards the US or Canada because of those ties. It’s all about who’s got the most power at the time.
