Tricked into playing a disturbing game exploiting youth trauma

Hey everyone, I need some advice. My friend convinced me to try this new horror game, but I’m really upset about it. The game uses real stories of troubled teens and kids who’ve been through awful stuff. It feels so wrong and exploitative. I can’t stop thinking about it. Has anyone else played this game? How do you deal with media that crosses ethical lines like this? I’m not sure if I should tell my friend how I feel or just pretend I never played it. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Sounds like a hard pass for me.

Those kinds of games just don’t sit right.

There are plenty of cool horror games that don’t use real trauma stories.

I’d tell your friend it made you uncomfortable.

Yikes, that sounds pretty messed up. I’d definitely avoid games that exploit real tragedies like that. It’s okay to tell your friend it made you uncomfortable. Maybe suggest playing something else together instead? There are tons of great horror games out there that don’t cross ethical lines. No need to support the sketchy ones.

I’ve played some pretty dark games, but using real stories of troubled kids feels way over the line. Kinda wish devs would stick to made-up horror instead of exploiting actual trauma. Might be worth skipping that one and finding something less problematic to play.

Oof, that’s a tough one. Games based on real trauma are super iffy.

Maybe look up reviews to see if others felt the same way?

Talking it out with your friend could help too.

That game sounds pretty sketchy. I’d probably steer clear of stuff that uses real trauma stories like that. There are so many good horror games out there that don’t cross those lines. Maybe try something like Amnesia or Layers of Fear instead?
