Three players received identical cards in poker game

Last night while playing poker with friends, something strange occurred. All three of us ended up with the same hand when the cards were dealt. Is this a common occurrence, or did someone probably mess up the shuffle? It left us all puzzled since none of us have seen anything like it before. Has anyone else had a similar experience with matching hands among players? I’m curious if there’s a mathematical explanation for how often this could happen or if we should question the dealing process.

That’s extremely rare unless the shuffle was botched. What specific hand did you all get?

It really depends on the hand you got. If all three of you had the same pair of sevens or something, that’s super weird and likely means the shuffle was off. But if it was just three high card hands that matched, it’s rare but not impossible with a decent shuffle. Either way, considering the odds, you should definitely question how that hand happened.

We had something similar happen during a Texas Hold’em game once and it turned out someone had accidentally double dealt from the same spot in the deck. Three identical hands is wild though, I’d probably reshuffle and start over just to be safe.

Yeah that’s definitely sketchy. I’ve been playing cards for years and never seen three matching hands like that. The odds are astronomical unless someone really messed up the shuffle or the deck wasn’t properly mixed from a previous game.

What kind of poker were you playing? If it was something like five card draw, getting identical hands across three players is basically impossible with a proper shuffle.

Sounds like the deck wasn’t shuffled properly. I’ve had weird stuff happen in card games before but three identical hands is pretty suspicious.
