I recently played Dustborn and I’m torn about it. The game’s core ideas are really cool. I love how they use language as a power that can change the world. The setting is also awesome - a messed-up America with weird stuff and crazy robots running around. It’s got so much potential!
But man, the writing is just not good. I can’t stand any of the characters. They’re all so annoying. It’s like they took this amazing concept and then ruined it with bad dialogue and characters you want to punch.
Has anyone else played this game? What did you think? Am I being too harsh, or did you also feel let down by the writing and characters? I really wanted to like it because the ideas behind it are so interesting. But I’m struggling to enjoy it because of these issues. Any thoughts?
I get where you’re coming from. Cool concept but iffy execution can be frustrating. Sometimes games nail the world-building but fumble on characters. Maybe the sequel will improve things?
Yeah, I feel you on Dustborn. The concept had me hyped but the execution left me cold. It’s like they spent all their creative juice on the world and forgot about making likable characters.
Reminds me of other games that nailed the setting but fumbled the storytelling. Sometimes I wonder if devs get so caught up in their cool ideas that they forget the basics.
Still, gotta give 'em props for trying something different. Maybe they’ll iron out the kinks in a sequel or something.
I’ve been curious about Dustborn but haven’t played it yet. Sucks to hear the writing isn’t great. Games with cool concepts but poor execution always bum me out. Maybe they’ll improve it with patches or DLC? Still might check it out on sale just for the unique setting.
I hear you on the concept vs execution thing. Happens way too often in games. Dustborn was on my radar but I held off getting it. Sounds like I made the right call. Shame though, cause that language-as-power idea could’ve been really cool if done well. Maybe they’ll patch in better dialogue or something, but I won’t hold my breath.
Dustborn’s been on my radar too. Shame about the characters though. Sometimes games with wild concepts struggle to back it up with solid writing. Still, the language-as-power thing sounds pretty unique. Might grab it on sale just to check out the world-building.
