I have this weird issue where there’s a game icon appearing in the top left area of my screen. It’s just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. I can’t click on it or interact with it in any way. It doesn’t seem to be a real window or anything functional, but it’s really annoying to look at.
The icon doesn’t respond when I try to close it or move it around. It’s like it’s not even a real program running, but somehow it’s still visible on my desktop. Has anyone else experienced something like this before? I’m not sure if it’s a display glitch or some kind of leftover process that didn’t close properly.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of this phantom icon would be really helpful. It’s driving me crazy just having it there for no reason.
I had a similar issue with the Epic Games launcher not too long ago. There was this strange phantom icon that just wouldn’t disappear. What worked for me was launching the game or launcher first, and then closing it properly afterward. Sometimes the display gets mixed up between what’s actually running and what’s just leftover visuals.
That sounds really frustrating. Restarting your PC might help, as those icons can sometimes be glitches from game launchers. If it sticks around, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
I totally get how annoying that is. It happens sometimes after games crash or when you alt-tab out. Try opening task manager and closing any related processes for that game or launcher. They can stick around even if the main window is gone. Also, changing your screen resolution and then switching it back can help clear it up.
I’ve had the Steam overlay get stuck like that too. Try Alt+Tab to switch windows or Windows key + D to show the desktop. Usually unsticks those icons.
Had this exact issue with GeForce Experience overlay getting stuck after recording. If nothing else works, launch the game that matches the icon, then close it properly. Sometimes the display thinks something’s still running when it’s just leftover visual junk.
