I’m having a weird issue with my game setup. I originally downloaded an unofficial version of this game to try it out. Later on, my buddy bought me the official Steam version as a gift, which was really nice of them.
Now when I launch the Steam version, there’s already a Level 100 character save file that I definitely never created or played. This is confusing because I should be starting fresh with the legitimate copy.
On top of that, I keep getting disconnected from online servers randomly. The connection drops happen pretty frequently and it’s making the game almost unplayable.
Has anyone else run into similar problems when switching from an unofficial copy to the official Steam version? I’m wondering if there are leftover files somewhere causing conflicts. Any suggestions on how to fix the save file issue and the connection problems would be really helpful.
It sounds like the pirated version might have left some files behind that the Steam version is recognizing. Many games share save locations so that could explain the Level 100 character.
To fix the save issue, check your Documents folder or AppData for any leftover game saves and delete the ones you don’t need. The connection drops could be due to leftover settings from the unofficial copy too. If that doesn’t work, consider a clean reinstall after deleting all game files and saves.
Had something similar happen with another game. The disconnects might be your antivirus or firewall getting confused between the old files and Steam’s version. Worth checking if the game is properly whitelisted.
Connection issues could be Steam’s DRM kicking in because it detects files from the old pirated version. It’s annoying, but it happens. As for that Level 100 save, it’s strange. Usually, pirated versions don’t come with random saves unless someone shared their own. Check if the name of that character is odd or generic. You might want to remove all game files from your system and do a clean install to fix these problems.
Running Steam as an administrator can help with those weird network issues. Sometimes old files interfere with new installs. As for that random Level 100 character, it’s probably leftover from a repack version, so just get rid of it. But those connection drops really need to be fixed since they make the game hard to play.
Sometimes games share save locations and that’s likely why you’re seeing that Level 100 character. I’d recommend verifying your game files on Steam to fix the connection issues. For the save file, just delete that character and you should be good to go.
