Split Fiction physical edition only includes digital download code (UK release)

I just noticed something disappointing about the Split Fiction physical release. When I checked a major UK gaming retailer, they’re showing that the boxed version doesn’t actually contain a physical game cartridge. Instead, you only get a download code inside the case.

This seems pretty frustrating since you’re paying for a physical copy but still need to download the entire game digitally. I’m wondering if this is going to be the standard across all regions or just specific to certain retailers in the UK.

Has anyone else seen similar listings for this game? It feels like a step backwards for people who prefer having actual game cards in their collection.

I feel you on that. Super disappointing to pay for a physical copy and just get a code inside. Really hope this doesn’t become standard. Having actual cartridges to display in your collection is half the fun.

Same thing happened with a few other indie titles I bought recently. Really kills the whole point of going physical when you still need decent internet to actually play the game.

This drives me absolutely nuts. I have been burned by this with other releases - you open the case and there’s nothing but a piece of paper inside. Publishers think we won’t notice, but it’s such a letdown when you’re expecting that satisfying click of a cartridge.

Yeah this is becoming way too common lately. Might as well just buy digital at that point.

Yeah, it’s a bummer when you expect a physical copy but just get a code. Makes collecting feel pointless.

This trend is so frustrating. Totally agree, feels like a cash grab when you think you’re buying a physical game but just get a code instead. Half the fun of collecting is actually having the cartridge. Really hope this doesn’t become standard, but it makes you wonder what we’re even paying for anymore.
