I’ve got some thoughts after checking out the most recent Battlefield tests
I started playing back when I was a kid with BF3 and have invested so much time into BF4, Bad Company, and more. After over a decade, I still hoped each new release would recapture that original excitement. But honestly? It feels like DICE has forgotten what made Battlefield great.
The class system feels all wrong now
Do you remember when classes actually had distinct roles? Medics used assault rifles and kept the team alive, Engineers had SMGs for taking out vehicles, Support players carried LMGs to provide ammo, and Snipers stayed back with their rifles? Everyone played a unique role that required teamwork to succeed.
Now? Anyone can wield any weapon. You’ll see snipers using machine guns and support players trying to snipe from high ground. It’s just chaotic and there’s no strategic gameplay when everyone does whatever they want.
The movement mechanics feel off
Back in BF3 and BF4, soldiers moved like real combatants. You had to carefully plan your positioning and timing. Now, it seems like players are just sliding and jumping around corners like they’re in an arcade shooter. When did Battlefield shift from tactical gameplay to trick shots?
Maps lack character
Older maps, like Shanghai and Locker, had real personality. Each one was unique and offered different gameplay experiences. The newer maps just feel generic and forgettable, with no standout moments or iconic confrontations.
Even the content creators have moved on
Remember how JackFrags and others used to create Battlefield content weekly? Now they hardly touch it, which speaks volumes about the game’s current state.
I’m tired of waiting for the next installment to improve. DICE either needs to return to what made the series great or consider ending it. Watching this slow decline is tough.
