My gaming group and I regularly enjoy cooperative titles such as Overcooked and Unrailed. We recently tried Chained Together and really liked the mechanic where players are connected and have to coordinate their movement together. The linking system was challenging but also really entertaining at the same time.
We’re now searching for other games that feature similar connection mechanics where players are bound together and must work as a team to move around. We’re open to trying games in any visual style - whether they’re 2D, 2.5D, or full 3D doesn’t matter to us. The main thing we want is that cooperative binding gameplay element.
Does anyone know of titles that have this type of tethered multiplayer system? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
The We Were Here series could be perfect. You’re separated and can only talk through walkie-talkies to solve puzzles together. Gets you that same coordination challenge without needing the rope mechanic.
A Way Out has this cool handcuff sequence where you’re literally chained together for part of the game. It’s more story-driven than what you mentioned but that section’s pretty memorable. Also check out It Takes Two - you’re not physically connected, but the whole game forces you to work together constantly. The puzzles get really creative with how they make you coordinate everything.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime might be what you’re looking for. You’re all stuck in the same ship and have to run around manning different stations together. Gets pretty chaotic when things heat up.
Bread & Fred is perfect for this. You’re two penguins tied together with a rope, navigating platforming challenges. The physics get absolutely ridiculous when you’re swinging each other around cliffs. Just heads up - it gets frustrating fast if anyone in your group can’t handle trial and error gameplay.
