Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love this game and it’s easily one of my favorites ever made. This is just something that bugs me a bit.
The money mechanics in Disco Elysium seem way too generous to me. Even when you play on harder difficulty settings, you end up swimming in cash pretty quickly. The hard mode only makes healing stuff more expensive but that’s about it.
By the time you reach day 4 or 5, you’re usually walking around with like 60-100 real and nothing really worth buying. Most of the gear you actually need is dirt cheap anyway.
This really hurts the whole poverty angle the game is going for. Your character is supposed to be this broke detective struggling to get by, but you never actually feel that pressure. When dialogue gives you options to beg for money or do shady stuff for cash, it feels fake because you don’t actually need it.
I think if they made money tighter, it would make the whole capitalism debate hit harder on a personal level. Right now those moral choices feel more like roleplay options instead of actual survival decisions.
Anyone else feel like the economy needed some rebalancing?
