I’m experiencing an issue with the charging port on my Tesla Model 3. Whenever I attempt to open the charge door, it doesn’t stay open. It tends to either shut immediately or falls back after a brief moment.
This is quite frustrating as it prevents me from charging my vehicle effectively. I’ve pressed the button on the touchscreen multiple times, but the same issue reoccurs. The door opens briefly only to close again.
Has anyone else dealt with this problem on their Model 3? I’m curious if this is a widespread issue or if my vehicle might have a defect. Any tips on resolving this would be appreciated.
That charging door issue happened to my buddy’s Model 3 too. It turned out the door sensor was acting up and thought something was in the way when there wasn’t. Tesla had to replace the whole charging port assembly.
I dealt with the same issue for weeks. It was frustrating trying to charge my car. Turns out it was a power issue. I cleaned the contacts around the charging port with rubbing alcohol and made sure the 12V battery was in good shape. Sometimes, electrical problems can cause weird issues like this.
Mine started doing this after a car wash got water in the wrong spots. Check if there’s any moisture or gunk around the charging port area that might be interfering with the door staying open.
I dealt with the same issue before. It turned out the spring in the charging door was weak, so it couldn’t hold it open.
I fixed it by doing a soft reset of the car. Just press and hold both steering wheel buttons until the screen restarts. If that doesn’t work, you’ll want to go visit Tesla service. It’s a common problem.
Sounds like a mechanical issue with the actuator or maybe the latch mechanism is getting stuck. Mine did something similar about a year ago and it turned out to be a small piece of debris that got wedged in there.
Try gently pushing on the door while it’s open to see if it feels loose or wobbly. You might also want to check if there’s any dirt or ice buildup around the hinges. If that doesn’t work, probably worth scheduling a service appointment since it’s likely covered under warranty.
