Loving Avowed's streamlined RPG approach - it's like playing on 'Arcade Mode'

Has anyone else noticed how Avowed feels super fun and easy to get into? It’s like they took all the stuff that can slow you down in other RPGs and chucked it out the window. You can just grab whatever you want without worrying about stealing. All your guns and bows have unlimited ammo. Changing your character’s skills is a breeze. The spells are simple but each one feels great to use. No annoying mini-games to deal with either.

It’s like Obsidian decided to focus on making the game as enjoyable as possible, even if it meant leaving out some of the deeper stuff. I think it’s pretty cool, but I bet some people might not like it.

Oh, and for those saying the story is too tame - have you even played it? There are some pretty heavy topics in there, like a quest that deals with abortion. The whole game is about colonialism and finding a balance between freedom and control. That’s not exactly playing it safe if you ask me.

What do you guys think about this approach? Do you prefer more complex RPGs or this streamlined style?

Streamlined doesn’t mean shallow. Avowed proves you can have meaningful gameplay without getting bogged down in minutiae. It’s perfect for when you want that RPG fix but don’t have weeks to invest.

I’m digging Avowed’s approach. It’s refreshing to just jump in and have fun without getting bogged down in inventory management or overly complex systems.

Sometimes I want a deep RPG I can sink 100 hours into, but other times I just wanna cast cool spells and explore without worrying about every little detail.

Avowed hits that sweet spot for me. It’s not dumbed down, just streamlined in smart ways. And yeah, the story tackles some heavy themes if you pay attention. It’s a nice balance overall.

Yeah, Avowed’s stripped-down style is pretty cool. Reminds me of how some fighting games have simplified controls for casual players. It keeps the core fun stuff without all the extra fluff. Not every RPG needs to be super complex to be good.
