I’m really into indie horror games that focus on the mind stuff rather than just jump scares. I’m a huge fan of psychological horror that makes you think. I recently discovered some amazing detective horror games that kept me playing for hours without stopping. The atmosphere and story were so good that I couldn’t put them down. I also heard about this new game called Mouthwashing that looks incredible, but sadly I can’t play it since I’m on Mac and it’s not supported. Does anyone know other similar games with deep stories and creepy psychological elements that would work on my system? I prefer games that build tension through narrative rather than relying on cheap scares.
Amnesia The Dark Descent still holds up really well for that slow burn psychological terror you’re after.
If you haven’t tried SOMA yet, it’s perfect for what you’re looking for. The psychological horror gets intense and the story will seriously mess with your head. Night in the Woods is worth checking out too - not straight horror, but it’s got some genuinely creepy psychological moments with solid storytelling. Both run great on Mac.
Layers of Fear might be perfect for you. It really gets under your skin with all the psychological horror stuff.
Detention’s amazing for psychological storytelling and runs great on Mac
If you’re into psychological horror, you should check out The Cat Lady. It’s got a deep story and really focuses on the psychological elements. Plus, it runs on Mac. Definitely worth a play!
