Hey everyone! I’m planning a gaming session with my buddies this weekend and we want to play some local co-op games together. I have a MacBook Air with the M1 chip running the latest macOS version. My main question is whether I can pair up to 4 DualShock 4 controllers (either through Bluetooth or USB connection) to play multiplayer games like cooking simulation games on Steam. Has anyone tried this setup before? My friends have similar MacBooks and one has an older Windows laptop, so we’re trying to figure out the best machine to use for our gaming night. Any advice would be really helpful!
I do this constantly on my M1 Air with Overcooked and other party games. Four controllers work perfectly - I stick with wired ones though since bluetooth can lag during crazy moments.
USB-C hub is definitely worth it for 4 controllers, saves battery and no weird disconnects.
Bluetooth works fine, but grab a USB hub if you’ve got one. Controllers sometimes disconnect when the MacBook hits power saving mode, which can be really annoying mid-game. The M1 handles multiple controllers without any issues, way better than my old Intel MacBook.
Yeah, it works perfectly! I’ve got three controllers running on my M1 MacBook Pro with no issues. Bluetooth can be a bit finicky during pairing, but once connected, you’re good to go. USB works solidly too if you have ports or a hub. The M1 handles it fine, just make sure your game actually supports multiple controllers since some Steam games can get weird about that on Mac.
Been running 4 PS4 controllers on my M1 Air for months now. Works like a charm, though I’d recommend keeping the controllers charged since dead batteries during multiplayer sessions are the worst.
Works great, just tested 4 controllers last week on my M1 Air for Moving Out.
