Is it just me or has the vegan movement lost steam compared to a few years back?

I’ve been following a plant-based lifestyle for over two decades now, and lately I can’t shake the feeling that things have changed. Remember when it seemed like every restaurant was adding new vegan options and people were really talking about ethical eating?

Now I’m seeing some of the bigger plant-based brands having financial troubles. Major fast food chains that used to carry alternative protein options have quietly removed them from their menus. When I go shopping, the specialty vegan products are either crazy expensive at premium stores or marked way down at discount outlets like they’re trying to get rid of inventory.

Even basic groceries cost more these days, and with all the focus on low-carb diets and avoiding certain ingredients, it feels like the conversation has moved away from the ethical issues around factory farming. People just don’t seem as interested in questioning where their food comes from anymore.

Maybe I’m being pessimistic, but it really felt like around 2015 there was this growing awareness about food choices that seems to have faded. Anyone else notice this shift?

Yeah, it feels like social media shifted focus a lot. I used to see more about food activism, but now it’s drowned out by other trends. Makes you wonder what happened to the buzz.

Yeah the Beyond Meat hype definitely died down. Those products went from trendy to clearance bin pretty quick.

Yeah, it just became normal instead of disappearing. When I order food now, vegan options are just there - no big fanfare like before. The novelty’s gone but the baseline shifted up, you know? You’re spot on about pricing though - it’s gotten brutal.

Same here, especially at gaming conventions. There used to be tons of vegan food trucks and options, but now it’s mostly back to regular food. Economic pressures probably hit the niche stuff hardest.

Keto and carnivore diets pulled people in the opposite direction too.
