Does anyone else miss when the protagonists stayed in their support role instead of joining missions directly?

I’ve been thinking about how the main characters used to work behind the scenes as mission coordinators. Back then, they had this mysterious vibe that made them feel special. The whole concept of being a hero through support work was really cool.

But now that they can go into dangerous areas themselves, they seem less unique compared to other game protagonists. Even the AI assistant doesn’t appear as much in recent updates after version 1.6. At this rate, all that power consumption might not be worth it anymore.

When the developers changed the game mechanics and removed the strategy elements, it created some storytelling problems that haven’t been solved yet. That’s just how I see it.

I do remember that one scene in update 1.4 where the main character got trapped with another character. That worked because it showed they could handle themselves outside their usual setup. But taking the coordinator away from their station should only happen rarely. Do it too often and you lose what made the character interesting in the first place.

I miss that tension when you knew they were vulnerable but still had to make the tough calls from their command center. Made every decision feel way more important.

Totally agree. It’s like the mystery disappears when they’re out there fighting alongside everyone else. I used to love how they managed everything from behind the scenes, making them feel like real masterminds. Now they’re just part of the action, and it takes away from what made them unique in the first place. Definitely not an upgrade.

Yeah, I get it. The old behind-the-scenes approach was way more engaging. It had this tension and strategic feel that made every move matter. Now that everyone’s diving into combat, it feels like any other generic action game at this point.

The behind-the-scenes coordinator role was way more engaging than generic action hero stuff

That 1.4 scene you mentioned was perfect because it felt special, not routine
