Digital Extremes Now Controls Dark Sector Publishing After Acquiring Rights from ND Games

Digital Extremes Takes Back Control of Dark Sector

For years, Dark Sector had a weird situation where DE made the game but ND Games owned it. This created problems since the original developers couldn’t really do much with their own creation.

I noticed something interesting when checking the Steam store page recently. The publisher info changed from ND Games to Digital Extremes. You can verify this by looking at archived versions of the Steam page from last month compared to now.

This is actually awesome news. When game creators get their work back, especially from publishers who basically ignored it, good things can happen. Dark Sector has been sitting there with no updates or support for way too long.

I really hope DE decides to fix some of the compatibility issues with newer systems. The game has potential but runs poorly on modern PCs. There are community fixes available on sites like PCGamingWiki that help, but official support would be much better.

That game was such a weird experiment when it came out. The whole glaive mechanic felt way ahead of its time but the execution was kinda janky. Would be cool if they gave it a proper remaster treatment instead of just letting it collect dust. The foundation was solid, just needed more polish.

Dark Sector was pretty underrated back in the day. Really curious if they’ll do anything with it now that they have control again or just leave it as is.

Maybe they’ll finally make Dark Sector 2 after all these years. The Warframe success probably gives them more resources to revisit old projects.
