Could a dystopian Filipino teleserye inspired by classic novels succeed on national TV?

I’ve been thinking about the current state of Filipino TV dramas. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good warehouse fight scene or forbidden love story now and then. But lately, I’ve been craving something different. Something more thought-provoking.

What if we had a teleserye set in a dystopian version of the Philippines? Picture a world that’s both familiar and strange, where society has taken a dark turn. It could draw inspiration from books like ‘1984’ or ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, but with a uniquely Filipino twist.

I know it would be a challenge to get something like this on national TV. The MTRCB might have concerns. But wouldn’t it be exciting to see Filipino writers and actors tackle such complex themes? It could be a powerful way to comment on current issues without being too on-the-nose.

What do you think? Is there an audience for this kind of show in the Philippines? Or am I dreaming too big?

I’d be down for a Filipino dystopian show. Could be a fresh take on the genre. Mixing in local culture and issues would make it unique. Might be too dark for regular TV though. Streaming platforms would probably be a better fit for something that intense.

A dystopian Filipino show sounds cool. I’d watch that for sure. Could be a bit dark for regular TV though. Maybe they could do a lighter version first to see how people react? Like a sci-fi drama with some dystopian elements mixed in.

I’d totally watch a Filipino dystopian series. Could be rad if they mixed in some local folklore or urban legends to give it a unique flavor. Maybe set it in a future where Manila’s gone underwater due to climate change. That’d be a cool twist on the genre.

Might be tricky to get past censors for regular TV though. Streaming could be the way to go for something edgier like that.

Sounds interesting!

A dystopian Pinoy show could work if done right.

Might need to balance the heavy themes with some humor or romance to appeal to a wider audience though.

That’s an awesome idea! A Filipino dystopian series could be pretty epic. Maybe set it in a future where the government controls everyone through social media and AI. Could explore themes of censorship, privacy, and digital rights. Might be too heavy for mainstream TV, but I bet it’d kill on streaming platforms. Would love to see Filipino creators tackle something like that.

That could work. Imagine a dystopian Metro Manila with jeepneys as surveillance vehicles. Might be too intense for primetime though. Maybe better for streaming platforms?
