I’m trying to track down a specific flash-based adventure game from the 2000s that was featured in a gaming video. The game took place in a ruined cityscape with a point-and-click interface. It wasn’t exactly horror but had some unsettling imagery and moments throughout.
The setting was mostly destroyed urban areas where you moved between different damaged buildings and street locations. The gameplay was more substantial than typical short flash games, probably lasting a few hours total. I think the story involved completing some objective before a catastrophe struck again.
Two specific scenes I recall: one took place in a high-rise apartment at night with a collapsed wall on the left side and a locked door ahead. Another scene showed a courtyard area with a large crater in the center, buildings on both sides, and an open view of the sky to the right.
The visual style reminded me of Inculcation, though it was definitely a different game entirely. Does anyone recognize this description?
The courtyard with the crater sounds really familiar but I can’t place it exactly. Have you tried checking Newgrounds archives? A lot of those longer flash adventure games from that era are still buried in there. The apartment scene you described reminds me of some of the urban exploration flash games that were popular around 2007-2009.
Might also be worth posting this on r/tipofmyjoystick if you haven’t already. Those folks are wizards at tracking down obscure games from just a few details.
That apartment scene with the collapsed wall is ringing a bell for me too. Was there any kind of inventory system or puzzle solving involved? The timeframe and description make me think it could be from one of the smaller indie developers who were making these atmospheric adventure games before they got overshadowed by bigger flash portals.
The crater courtyard detail is pretty specific so hopefully someone will recognize it. Those mid-2000s post-apocalyptic flash games had such a distinct feel to them.
