I’ve been thinking about this lately and wanted to get everyone’s thoughts. It seems like independent developers are absolutely killing it when it comes to horror games right now. Don’t get me wrong, the big budget studios are also putting out some solid scary titles, but there’s something special happening in the indie space. We’re getting so many creative and genuinely terrifying experiences from smaller teams. The variety is incredible too - from psychological thrillers to jump scare fests to atmospheric slow burns. It feels like we’re spoiled for choice with quality horror content. What do you all think? Are we currently in a golden period for indie horror, or have I just been lucky with my recent game picks?
We’re totally in a golden age for indie horror right now. Game development is so much more accessible than 10-15 years ago - way more people can actually make games. That means we get all these weird passion projects that never would’ve existed before. And indie devs aren’t afraid to make you genuinely uncomfortable instead of just cheap jump scares.
Totally agree, indie horror is where the creativity shines. It’s refreshing to see so many unique takes on the genre.
Exactly, indie devs can experiment with bizarre ideas that big studios would shut down immediately. That creative freedom really makes a difference.
Absolutely, indie devs are crushing it with boundary-pushing stuff. Love seeing fresh ideas that big studios won’t touch.
Totally agree, indie horror’s been killing it lately. Games like Phasmophobia and Iron Lung show how small teams can create some really terrifying experiences that top a lot of big studio releases.
