I just came across IGN’s list of the top horror games of all time and noticed some picks were quite unexpected. Alien Isolation landed in the 6th position, which puts it right between Outlast and Dead Space, both of which tackle horror in their own unique ways.
I’m really interested in your opinions on this ranking. Do you think Alien Isolation deserves a spot this high on the list? While it definitely created an intense atmosphere, I’m curious if you’d rate it above or below those other two games. The game’s stealth approach was quite different from typical horror titles, but not everyone liked it; some found it more annoying than terrifying.
What do you think about IGN’s decisions? Is this ranking justified in your view, or would you have rearranged these titles in a different order?
Yeah, 6th place sounds right for Alien Isolation. The stealth gets tedious sometimes, but damn if it doesn’t absolutely nail that claustrophobic space station atmosphere.
I think Alien Isolation really nailed that feeling of dread, so I’d rank it higher than 6th. The tension it creates is off the charts. Sure, the stealth can get annoying, but that sense of being hunted just adds to the experience. Dead Space is fun, but it’s more about action than pure horror. IGN has some strange rankings sometimes, but this one’s not the worst.
Dead Space is more action-focused, but Alien Isolation really gets that psychological horror right. The constant fear of making noise keeps you on edge, and that’s what makes it stand out.
